Sensors with convincing cost effectiveness

Capacitive sensors Capacitive sensors can detect solid, liquid or granular objects.

Capacitive sensors can detect solid, liquid or granular objects. With these sensors highly structured and non-dimensionally stable objects e.g. the fill levels of liquids or bulk materials can also be detected in direct contact with the medium or through a non-metallic container wall. They are also suitable for completeness inspections. Capacitive sensors also function reliably in an extremely dusty or dirty environment. An array of different designs and large operating ranges enable the use in practically all areas of application in industrial automation.

Basic sensors

  • Operating range 1-30 mm, switching frequency up to 100 Hz
  • Certifications: CE
  • Housing material: Plastic / brass, nickel-plated
  • Connector and cable variants

The function of a capacitive sensor is based on changes to the electrical field in the surroundings of its active zone. If the capacitor plate which is arranged behind the button is supplied with current, an electrostatic field is generated. This reacts to capacitance changes which are caused by an introduced object. Any type of object can thereby be contactlessly detected and measurement variables that are interesting from a production-related point of view, such as fill levels, can be transmitted to the control. The cylindrical sensors of the LCS-2 basic series offer reliable detection in all standard applications for position detection and fill level detection, e.g., in packaging systems or laboratory automation. Thanks to the various sizes and connection types, the capacitive sensors of the LCS-2 series can be used in various installation situations and are, thus, ideal for a wide range of applications.

Advanced sensors

  • Operating range 1-30 mm, switching frequency up to 100 Hz, available with IO-Link
  • Certifications: UL / CE
  • Housing material: Plastic / stainless steel / Teflon (PTFE)
  • Connector and cable variants

Capacitive sensors offer contactless, shape-independent and wear-free operation. Detection is reactionless and, thus, has no effect on the product. They are also resistant to interference and contamination, e.g., dust in the air. As a result, they have high interference rejection, making them ideal for use in harsh industrial environments. The LCS-1 capacitive sensors in the Advanced category are optionally available as IO-Link models with teach button for flexible configuration of the switching distance and for permanent process optimization. Moreover, versions with Teflon housing (PTFE) can also be used in situations with high chemical stress, such as in the semiconductor industry.
